| Illegal Aliens Abscond Under “Humane” ICE Program Posted: 28 Oct 2009 11:57 AM PDT Touted by the Obama Administration as key to overhauling the nation's immigration detention system, a program that monitors illegal aliens instead of jailing them regularly loses track of offenders and the government distorts records to cover it up. Operated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the intensive monitoring program allows illegal aliens to check in by phone, wear ankle monitors and obey a curfew rather than go to prison while they wait for court appearances. ICE claims the alternatives-to-detention program is a huge success and Obama assures it's a great model for his plans to create a more humane immigration detention system. But records and statistics obtained by a Houston newspaper under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) tell a much different story. Nearly one in five illegal immigrants who participated in the tracking project absconded while under supervision during the last five years, according to the records. Authorities were unable to locate nearly 20% of 6,373 illegal aliens enlisted in the program during that time. About 5% were subsequently rearrested for other matters. ICE brags about a near perfect success rate because it simply erases those who absconded from the records as if they never existed. The Department of Homeland Security's largest investigative agency, with about 20,000 employees and 400 offices worldwide, includes only active participants when it calculates its heavily altered statistics. Based on the blatantly misleading data, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is working to expand the alternatives-to-detention program, which currently has about 20,000 participants. The former Arizona governor, who has a documented history of opposing immigration enforcement, will submit a proposal to Congress before year's end in hopes of accomplishing that goal. It's all part of the Obama Administration's plan to pass a "compassionate" and "comprehensive" immigration overhaul that aims to legalize an estimated 12 million undocumented aliens. | Posted: 28 Oct 2009 11:23 AM PDT Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it filed a taxpayer lawsuit against the Phoenix Police Pension Board, its five members, and City of Phoenix Chief of Police Jack F. Harris to stop the illegal payment of pension benefits to Chief Harris valued at approximately $90,000 per year. Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit on October 28 with the Superior Court for the State of Arizona on behalf of taxpayers and residents of the City of Phoenix, including a number of active and retired members of the Phoenix Police Department. According to Arizona law, if a retired member of the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System "subsequently becomes employed in the same position by the employer from which the member retired, the system shall not make pension payments to the retired member during the period of reemployment." According to Judicial Watch's lawsuit, Chief Harris retired from the City of Phoenix Police Department "on or about January 19, 2007," and was subsequently rehired as "Public Safety Manager." However, Chief Harris continues to head the Phoenix Police Department. He not only uses the title of "Chief of Police," but he also wears the same uniform and has the same office at Police Headquarters as he did before his "retirement." Chief Harris is listed as "Public Safety Manager/Police Chief Jack Harris" on the Phoenix Police Department's organizational chart. Nonetheless, Chief Harris continues to take pension payments, contrary to the requirements of the law. Judicial Watch previously requested in a letter dated August 27, 2009, that Arizona Attorney General Goddard take action to enjoin the payment of the illegal pension benefits to Chief Harris. However, Attorney General Goddard refused to take action, according to a September 26th letter from the Attorney General's Division Chief Counsel Donald Conrad. Arizona law empowers a taxpayer to institute an action if the taxpayer makes a written request to the Attorney General to institute such an action and the Attorney General fails to do so within sixty (60) days. As the sixty day period has passed without any action by the Attorney General, Judicial Watch is filing this Arizona taxpayer lawsuit to end "illegal payment of pension benefits to Chief Harris." "Police Chief Harris' alleged double dipping is of deep concern to Arizona taxpayers who are outraged by this apparent waste of taxpayer funds. And certainly our tax-paying Phoenix law enforcement clients want to protect their pension fund. | White House For Sale To Donors Posted: 28 Oct 2009 09:14 AM PDT Keeping with the infamous Clinton tradition of selling coveted White House access for political donations, Barack Obama rewards wealthy contributors with exclusive visits, parties and other intimate activities at the executive mansion. The deep-pocketed contributors and bundlers are being aggressively courted by the commander-in-chief and his Democratic Party to raise large sums for congressional candidates in the 2010 elections. To thank them for giving generously to his presidential campaign—and inspire them to keep the dollars flowing—Obama has promised high-dollar fundraisers VIP White House access, private briefings with advisers and invitations to important speeches. The secret Obama deals were made public this week by a Washington D.C. newspaper that obtained internal Democratic National Committee documents, including advisory board and finance committee papers. They reveal that high-dollar fundraisers have been promised access to senior White House officials in exchange for pledges to personally donate $30,400 or to raise $300,000 for the 2010 midterm elections. Droves of Democratic fundraisers and donors have already been graciously thanked with special invitations to quaint White House functions, private bowling at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, special banquets and private time with the president. A couple of bundlers even caught a flick with Obama in the White House movie theater.
