Families of Prisoners Need Your Help

Posted: 08 Jul 2010 07:12 PM PDT

“I am willing to go to prison for my faith. But please, God, take care of my family.”

— Recent prayer of Salavat, a formerly imprisoned pastor from Uzbekistan

When Salavat was in prison for his faith, his family had no food. Some of the local Christians were afraid they would be arrested if they helped his family. Others didn’t know what had happened. The international community was unaware of his arrest at first, and during this time, his family nearly starved.

When our founder, Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, was in prison, the guards played a recording of a young boy screaming in pain in the adjacent cell. Pastor Wurmbrand was told they were beating his son.

When Esther learned that her mother and father had been arrested, she was angry with God and the Chinese communists. Then she prayed and realized her parents were honoring God with their sacrifice. Now she is asking for our help.

Since the founding of The Voice of the Martyrs in 1967, we have always sought to assist families of our brothers and sisters who are imprisoned for their faith. Retrieving the information on prisoners can often be challenging. However, this aspect of our service remains a top priority, and help is distributed through VOM’s Families of Prisoners Fund.

This month we invite you to help VOM assist more families through a contribution to the fund. To learn more about VOM’s Families of Prisoners Fund, please click here.

We also invite you to answer Esther’s call for Christians throughout the free world to join a letter writing campaign to her mother, who is now serving two years in a Chinese labor camp. You can help Esther now.

Find Freedom

How are you doing? I mean really doing? Is your soul at peace and your joy complete? Or, are you perhaps suffering right now?

Look with me at 2 Samuel 12:1-14. Before we step into this passage, it had been a full year that David was down and out and very depressed. Why? Because of unconfessed sin in his life.

In this passage the Lord sent Nathan to David to reveal David’s unconfessed sin, and to tell him that God still wanted to show mercy on him. (Maybe this email will serve that purpose in your life!)

Unconfessed sin is not an easy subject to face, yet it has to be done because:

  1. It’s is in the Word of God
  2. We all face temptation
  3. If you get serious about it, you find out how to not mess up your life

Romans 8:13 says: “For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”

What’s the key to reclaiming your freedom in Jesus Christ? Confession.

The moment you break before God, confess and repent of your sin, you can start all over again.

Philippians 1:6 says: “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” God will never let up on you; you belong to Him. He will never drop you, and while He will turn up the heat at times, He will never give up on you.

The best thing you can do when you have messed up is to immediately fall on your knees. Confess with an honest heart and get going again.

We all have the ability to dodge repentance. Notice that David did not point the finger of blame to anyone else but to himself. It shows true repentance, when you can point the finger at yourself.

Read the article below for helpful insights about David’s confession and repentance. And take hold of the freedom God yearns for you to have RIGHT NOW!

Following Jesus Christ alongside you,

Luis Palau
